Leaving them open is better for your credit score though.
However, if they begin charging an annual fee, they have to notify you, and you cancel it at that point.

Leaving them open is better for your credit score though.Not if you don't use them. To maximize your score, leave them open and charge a little on it now and then to show activity. About a month before - one billing cycle - you go for a major purchase, have a small, not zero, balance on as many as possible.
