WAUWATOSA, Wis. -- A melee at a Kmart store in Wauwatosa Saturday morning was started by a computer glitch.
The store was running a promotion in which it would give away $10 to anyone applying for its credit card, but the computer glitch led to everyone's application being granted -- bestowing up to $4,000 in instant credit to anyone who applied even if they shouldn't have qualified.
Once word started to spread about the so-called "free money" Saturday, witnesses said things got pretty nuts inside the Wauwatosa store.
"They were having a big fight. Two ladies was jumping a lady over credit cards," witness Sylvester Wilson said.
Nearly a dozen Wauwatosa squad cars responded to the call just before 11 a.m. Saturday for what was called a large fight in progress.

For 10 dollars?
Not sure I’d walk 100 feet out of my way to pick up 10 dollars, much less get in a fight about it.
This reminds me of joke, the punchline of which is, “Attention KMart shoppers!”
I’ll bet you never forget the sarcasm tag again! heh ^=^
Be careful, though - If you moticate to much they come get you in a hugh, series paddy wagon!!! ;-P
You betcha! Man, have I ever gotten creamed on this thread.
When I read the article, I thought the same thing. Much ado over $10. But it wasn’t the $10, it was the credit card that they were going to max out with no intention of paying back. That caused the riot.
I think the scam is to get a credit card with a $4000 limit issued to Donald Duck living at 123 Main St., Anytown USA.
Repayment really isn't part of the program.
I knew that but he made reference to not wanting it, so I was just sayin.....
I sometimes have a lack of motication at work due to Freeping...
As the shoppers run home with their treasures....

“a whole trampede of people”
I got a Mastercard in the mail from a store account that I had cancelled years ago. And I cancelled it good, with a letter requesting, and a letter confirming. I still have them on file.
So when a unrequested Mastercard showed up at my house, issued by GE Financial Services, I called and asked them what the heck was going on. They told me that the card was issued on the defunct store account, but if I did not want it, it would cancel itself if I did not use it for thirty days.
WRONG ANSWER!
Hoo, boy, was I steamed! It turns out I had just ordered some big-ticket GE appliances, which were promptly cancelled. Idiots.
I think the poster was just expressing frustration with this particular group of people who called the cards “free money”. The same type of people who believe every time there’s a flood or hurricane it’s time to break a few windows & go “shopping”. I didn’t take it as a broad brush insult to people who have store accounts.
“trampede” ?
This is a story about a brawl that broke out among some specific people who were quite enthusiastically applying for Kmart credit cards. The question was asked why anyone would want a Kmart credit card. I described what I thought to be likely atributes of these participants in this brawl. Your reply to me is a baseless, unintelligent accusation. Go see Al Sharpton for your cookie.
“Ladies”?
Doubt that.
I don’t need a cookie.
Yeah, the observation of the people in the fight was correct...but don’t assume anyone wiht a K-mart card is in the same boat.
Although I haven’t personally shopped at a K-Mart in a long time...
My dog is a simple mutt from the animal shelter and she does work. Her job is to watch my back when I sleep and if there are strange noises while I am sleeping she alerts me to them. I am able to be awake before anyone successfully breaks into my home in which I have time to grab my gun. For that, she is rewarded with a loving owner, good food, and a warm home.
Plus, she greets me like I am a rock star every time I come home.

Must resist making humorous reply. Must resist . . . .
(BTW, I was kidding about the freeloading dogs.)
