(Former (Liberal) Prime Minister Jean) Chretien tells TV host he believes U.S. invasion of Iraq was for oil

MONTREAL — Jean Chretien believes the United States invaded Iraq for oil.

The former prime minister told the popular Radio-Canada television show Tout le monde en parle why he thinks U.S. President George W. Bush declared war on the Middle Eastern country in 2003.

“There are some people who suspect it was oil, for the control of oil. . . ,” Chretien said in French during the interview, which aired Sunday evening.

The show’s host, Guy A. Lepage, then told Chretien he thinks everyone believes the invasion was for oil.

“Well, me too,” Chretien said.

In 2003, Chretien said he would not send Canadian troops to Iraq without UN approval.

“Saddam (Hussein) was a very bad dictator, but he was not a religious dictator,” he said Sunday.

“He fought against religious leaders in Iran, and that was an excuse (for the Americans) to go to Iraq. It doesn’t make sense.”

Yup he’s on to us. That’s why we’ve been bathing in cheap gas prices for the last 5 years.

Neither does any of what Chretien says...what the heck is he talking about? He wasn't a religious dictator so he was OK? What oil have we taken from Iraq?

Saddam (Hussein) was a very bad dictator, but he was not a religious dictator,” he said Sunday.

Which again makes him a good dictator? What's his point? Stalin, Hitler and Mao weren't religious either. Maybe he wants to imply that religious people are worse. That's the gist.

“He fought against religious leaders in Iran, and that was an excuse (for the Americans) to go to Iraq.

Huh? Was it our "excuse" to go to Iraq, that he fought religious leaders in Iran!?

It doesn’t make sense.

I fully agree Monsieur Cretin. You don't make sense.

If we wanted to take over a country for oil, there's one a lot closer and we don't have to worry about 130° temperatures in its summer.

Why does Iraq sell the oil on the world market for market prices? If we invaded to take oil, why aren’t we taking it? This makes no sense whatsoever.
