Of course, not. This is Euro-patronizing of what used to be Middle America. They just suspect those of us in Flyover Country have (oh, how gloriously native! How deliciously frontier primative! How, "John Wayne.")
(It is, of course, the reading of that Bible, the actual search for answers and love of one's neighbor and, most tellingly, the love of this "spunky 4,000 year old myth," this love of "the God (and Friend of Abraham and) "the Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" that is "really the difference." They're so close to the heart of the issue, what kept Britain appart from Eurabia for so long... the meaning of "ye are the Salt of the Earth," and the remainder of that passage that spells the difference. "May we never have lost our savor, useful for nothing better than being trodden under foot by men."
Amen. This is, by the way, National Bible Week. It would be great if in every home where there is a Bible in this country - and in the world - we would all actually READ it - some each day going forward - I believe this country and the world would be turned upside down -—— as it was when this nation was founded.
Not because the Bible is some “magic book” - but because it is the Living Word of the Living God, and is effective in transforming lives which, in turn, transform families, communities, and countries.
Happy National Bible Week!
