The French haven't changed. They're just following their own law. The rationale for the dismissal was
'that Rumsfeld benefited from a "customary" immunity from prosecution granted to heads of state and government and foreign ministers, even after they left office.' This is the same law that protects French heads of state from prosecution, in other words. The suit was filed in a French court, not some international court, but the disappointed 'plaintiffs' think international law trumps French law.
The FIDH said...in a statement it was "astonished at such a mistaken argument" and said customary immunity from prosecution did not exist under international law. Besides, the French have a greater sense of self-preservation than to stir up an 'international incident' of this magnitude. If the French were inclined, they were stir something up in the so-called "International Criminal Court."

From one of the letter-writers at Reuters. Freezing temperatures? Do any of these idiots even know where Guantanamo Bay is? Good grief!

Give France alot of credit. They seem to understand anarchy and laziness, and entitlement only lasts as long as the last ass-kicking.
