I too suffer from this awful affliction. I would have a flareup at least 2X a year, for the past 8 years. However, I take an Allopurinol pill daily and haven’t had a flare up since. And that’s going on 3 years now. Most doctors now say that diet and (thank GOD) beer consumption has nothing to do with flareups. Once I started Allopurinol, I enjoy beer, asparagus, shellfish, etc, and have had no problems. But when I DID have flareups, the pain was excruciating. I couldn't’t sleep, my foot was hot and swelled up like a canned ham, and showering was horrible.

So ask your doc about it. BTW, Indocin and Colchine are poisons, which, although work to stop an outbreak, are much worse for you than allopurinol.
