Your info about the mob is true unless Roselli lied. He said that Giancana sent him and another guy to ask Joe K. to remind the boys how they came to power. Reference to mafia exercising union power in WVA to defeat Humphrey in the primary.

Joe K. said he would talk to them when they got together at Christmas. Joe stroked out before that.

I'm not informed enough to believe the conspiracy stories one way or the other, but it seems clear that the mafia had plenty of motivation.
