Congressman Accuses Police Of Racial Profiling
CBS2Chicago ^ | 11-21-2007 | Mike Parker

CHICAGO (CBS) ― U.S. Rep. Danny Davis (D-7th District) said Wednesday he was the victim of racial profiling.

CBS 2's Mike Parker reports, the congressman insists the only reason he was pulled over by Chicago police is because he is black.

"I hope that this was some kind of isolated instance, but I know in my heart of hearts, I know that it's not," Davis said.

The congressman said he was driving three friends home early Monday morning when two white Chicago police officers pulled him over and said he had swerved over the center line before making a left turn from Kedzie onto Douglas Boulevard.

The congressman was nailed with a $75 ticket and a date in traffic court on Dec. 28. He denies doing anything wrong.

"There was just no reason I could conjure up other than the fact that there were four black people in a car," he said.

Chicago police confirmed that a ticket was issued but said nothing about Davis' allegation that he was singled out for what he calls "driving while black."

A recent survey suggests that 59 percent of African-Americans believe they've been racially profiled in traffic stops by police. The congressman said police need to put an end to it.

"Something needs to happen and it needs to be real. And we're just a better city than that," Davis said.

He intends to fight the ticket he says was "simply wrong."

Davis is calling on city leaders to "bridge the gap" between police and the minority community.

It was early in the morning when they got pulled over? If there was any whiff or erractic or sloppy driving then that will get you pulled for suspicion of DUI. I would be really curious to know how the Congressman behaved since we all know that that there is a double standard for how they can act in public.

Because of course, driving home in the wee hours of the morning in Chicago, there’s no chance that the honorable gent (and his friends) might have had a few adult beverages too many and he might actually have bobbled the turn because of it. It HAS to be that those cracker cops hate black people.

Well, he was ticketed. $75 ain’t for DUI, but it is a minor moving violation of some kind.

Reading between the lines it would appear he was DWI bait in the early morning hours. Our police use the “lane weaving” as a probable cause for the stop and generally issue a dui to the drunk.

If what you are saying is true, he would have been cited for DUI. He wasn’t.

This is just another case of Cops behaving badly - and they do it to whites too.

I remember being pulled out of a car with four other white guys and being searched and I.D. checked by N.J. State Highway Gestapo. Reason? A signal light was out on the vehicle. They even called for a second car back-up, accused me of stashing a gun or drugs under a car seat before I got out. I told them to look - there was NOTHING there. They did. There was nothing there. The accusation was just an excuse for a fishing expedition - one which was fruitless as we were all carpooling after working at night. The driver got a ticket for having his rear signal light out.

Are you suggesting that the police are "profiling" suspected drunks? How dare they! How dare you. /s

Blame Whitey! That is his best effort Defense. Trained by Jesse the race pimp Jackson.
When Whitey can no longer be blamed for all the problems perceived or otherwise, someone will be forced to take responsibility for their own destiny. The race pimps are not in a hurry to stop using Whitey as the scapegoat.

The “honorable congressman” is wrong. His hatred for Whites is so strong that he refuses to see the truth. He should resign. The cop was right.

anyone who is black should not get a ticket for any reason because white policemen are naturally racist and any ticket they give has to be tainted with racism and bias and hate. any any black who becomes a policeman becomes blue instead of black and naturally, because he is blue instead of black, he is racist, full of hate and bias which is instilled in him as a result of being paid off by “the man”. (the whole system is corrupt, dontcha know, from the top to the bottom.)

Whether the cops were behaving badly is open to question. I can tell you it is almost impossible when sitting on the side of the highway at night watching traffic go by to tell the race of the driver and occupants. Between the lights in your face and the pace of activity, seeing who or how many are in a car is very difficult.

Traveling thru Chicago on numerous occasions I’ve noticed that a large percentage of Chicago PD are black. I’d be interested to know what that percentage is....As a matter of fact I don’t remember seeing a caucasion-american ever working traffic control.

A successful person. One who has achieved more than most individuals. He receives a $75 ticket and plays the "victim".

This is what j. jackson has taught him.........Never be an adult and deal with this minor incident. Always blame society.
