Each also accused the other of refusing to feed the boy and refusing to send him to school because they feared teachers would see his injuries.

I wondered why no one else had stepped into help - no one else saw him.

What a tragedy. With that type of damage done so early in life, he will struggle forever emotionally. If anyone deserves life in prison, it is these two bitches.

This is the common perception, but thankfully does not appear to be accurate.

Evidence indicates that a large minority (not much under 50%) of children who are mistreated in horrific ways seem to shrug it off rapidly and go about their lives more or less unaffected, at least as far as we can tell.

To be sure, the majority ARE severely affected, but another large minority of these seem to eventually work through it and then get on with their lives.

The end result is that a significant majority of children mistreated in these ways pull out of it eventually.

Given the unpleasant history of the human race, this is probably an evolutionary adaptation.

Our adopted daughter was abused by her stepfather when she was 18 months old. She’s now 26 and in her usual Holiday meltdown. She’s come a long way but inside, she’s still that scared little toddler. These people should be thrown into the general prison population for as long as they survive.
