There can be no doubt that Thompsons flip-flops on the right to life and the Terri Schiavo case, as examined in several of my columns, have been extremely detrimental to his candidacy. He is registering at only four percent in New Hampshire, even behind Ron Paul.
The latest installment of this seemingly never-ending saga was Thompsons November 18 interview with George Stephanopoulos, in which the former Senator said I didnt know that, but concurred when told by Stephanopoulos that Terri Schiavo, who was starved to death in 2005 by her estranged husband, was brain dead and that autopsies had proven that. The implication was that she didnt deserve to live.
Thompsons exact comments were I didnt know that, you know, at the time that was all kicking around and everybody was asking my opinion based on what was in the newspaper.
Perhaps this is a big part of the problem. Thompson gives opinions based on whats in the newspaper, without doing adequate research or checking out the facts for himself. Making matters worse, he seemed to take Stephanopouloss word for it that Schiavo was brain dead.
The truth is that Schiavo was brain damaged not brain dead and the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation has asked Stephanopoulos to correct the record. Considering the lack of standards in the major media these days, its doubtful that ABC News will issue a correction. But Thompson, if he wants to have any credibility left on the pro-life issue, should quickly do so.
Terris brother Bobby says the brain dead comment is not only patently false but offensive.

I have
Anderson Cooper knows what really happened to Terri. If he chooses to mention her cuz Pinellas is where she was brutally murdered, it's his debate. I'd rather watch the trainwreck from home.
If the GOP Platform doesn't separate abortion and euthanasia, they are going to be hounded their entire existence. The death lobby likes to lump them together. It's time to separate them.
Innocent babies and innocent adults deserve their own advocates to fight off the death cultists (includes dems and rinos).
Re: Meet the Press. I’m still working on uncovering that alleged coverup. Additionally, other internet news sites are really perturbed every time Fred does the Sunday talk shows. He’s rubbing numerous pundits and reporters the wrong way imo.
...everybody will be in town and I took earned media at FRIVA Las Vegas.
I don't remember that tactic being taught at the FreeRepublic Network Conference in August of 2002.
In fact quite the opposite, it was all about working together to achieve Conservative Goals.
You didn’t save your blue page about the media??? I’m looking for a decisive leader. FRIVA was given by The Leadership Institute. That’s all I want. A leader!
You don’t remember freeping? My gosh, freeping is being an activist. Do you not freep???
Where’d you sit at FRIVA? I sat in the back row on the left.
We met.
I remember you.
I am quite forgettable, so it’s OK.
You toss the word "us" around pretty easily. Who are they to plead to "us," instead of the courts? And who are you to speak for me as to my personal take on a private family affair?
You need to do some serious introspection, FRiend. Either that or get a hobby or learn to play an instrument.
Conservative as in smaller government?
Conservative as in less intrusive government?
Conservative as in free markets and free trade without government intervention?
Conservative as in a deep commitment to the Rule of Law?
Those are the cornerstones of conservatism.
Homosexuality and abortion might be moral abominations, but one neednt think so to be a conservative. Im not surprised youre confused on that point. Many are. But lets face facts; social conservative is to conservative as apricot is to cot.
And yet, you took the time to be personally offended by the observation, as though it holds some relevant place of importance in your life.
Would you like to take a turn at defending the hateful (there’s that double plus un-pc word again) keyword left by the recent troll, or would that be redundant? Go ahead and tell us how loving it is to thank God for the killing of an innocent helpless woman. I wasn’t convinced by the explanation previously offered by another.
I don’t mean to take away from your very good post, but today Germans are less likely than Americans to support eugenics motivated extermination. Germans remember their history, and understand what “never again” means. Many Germans expressed their horror at the murder of Terri Schiavo. Oddly enough, the U.S. and our WWII allies are more likely to engage in the atrocities we defended the world from than are the former perpetrators.
I was always the random passenger too so I was pulled out of line in Reno and at McCarren. It was ridiculous. Best picture window at an airport is at Reno.
Bump.
“But Thompson, if he wants to have any credibility left on the pro-life issue, should quickly do so.”
Too bad the National Right To Life Comittee has already endorsed Fred.
Back to the drawing board for you.
