As the good news continues to go forth, I shall on occasions re-iterate the simple fact, that the surge would not had made a difference had not all the previous military efforts been expended. Many battles in various provinces where won mostly by the United States forces, our Soldiers and Marines with able and honorable air support by our Airforce, Army, Navy, and Marines, and of course our various mixes of very very potent Special Forces, and within the past year the growing willingness and abilities of the new Iraqi Army and National and Local Police forces (trained by western countries).
We could have had an extra hundred thousand troops in Iraq a year or two ago and not have seen this major change take place.
They would have continued to fight us. It was the will of the Iraqi peoples to finally realize they where fighting the wrong people.
This IMHO is what really has allowed this sudden change. Without their HUMINT, we would still be picking off a few goons here and there as our forces each day patrolled the tens of hundreds of cities, villages, etc., of Iraq.
So let us keep a balance view of how things are going down.
It is so easy to use the word surge. Many fail to remember or really did not study the "earlier surges" that took place with little effect. Again. The Iraqi mental set has obviously drastically changed, due to the culmination of wha t they have seen our forces do in their country.
No women raped and children killed. Just brave soldiering in their behalf to protect them from their own.
Their minds have awoken to a new realization.
