Presidential primary can go forward in Michigan, state Supreme Court rules

LANSING, Michigan: Michigan's Jan. 15 presidential primary can go forward, the state Supreme Court decided Wednesday, keeping alive the state's bid to be one of the 2008 U.S. campaign's first contests for selecting the final candidates for each party.

States across America have been vying to schedule their primaries earlier in an attempt to gain influence as the early contests play a critical role in winnowing the field of presidential candidates.

The Michigan high court's 4-1 decision should clear the way for New Hampshire to schedule its primary, which has been waiting to see what the Michigan courts would do. New Hampshire law requires the state to hold the nation's first primary.

With time running short for election planners and campaigns, attention is focusing on a date for New Hampshire's primary, which will kick off a quick series of primaries across the United States. As the first primary, the New Hampshire contest — along with the first caucus in Iowa — traditionally play key roles in providing momentum to the top finishers for the next round of contests in other states.

The Iowa caucus is the first nomininating contest, scheduled for Jan. 3, and the New Hampshire primary is expected to be no later than Jan. 8.

I thought it is the opposite, since Romney is ahead in Iowa, New Hampshire and Michigan. Carrying 3 states before going to South Carolina primaries can have a huge impact.

Michigan retards.
Moving up the primaries WILL NOT regain Michigan’s relevancy.

Every time I want to go home to Michigan, these morons do something else like raise taxes.

Thanks for the info. Yes Romney is a close second to Guiliani.

Why is this bad for Mitt? He is in 2nd place in Michigan behind Rudy. Wouldn’t this be great for him?

1st in Iowa, and New Hampshire, followed by a strong 2nd place (or maybe even 1st) in Michigan?

These are all of the States that show his strength. If it is bad for anyone, it would probably be Mike Huckabee, who may have a burst from Iowa, only to be followed very closely by 2 weak States.

OF course it is.

Everything’s good news for the Mittster. He probably paid someone to move up the primary.

In most polls Rooty and Mutt were tied here but that is beside the point.

The RAT crossover vote will deside the Republican winner and with the Republican vote so split it likely will be Ron Paul.

Its an open primary with RATS and Republicans voting the same day.

Hildabeast is the only RAT on their ballot except Gravel and Kooksinish.

RATS and Ind’s will vote on the Republican ballots and my guess is that Ron Paul will get that vote.

Romney wont win Michigan.

It’s both good and bad news for Romney. Good, because he is tied statistically at last check and had somewhat of a favorite son status. Bad, because it probably means MI will be penalized half its delegates, from 60 to 30. MI is winner take all.

I guess it depends on if the momentum counts for more than the actual early number of delegates going in to Super Tuesday, and if he can beat out Rudy.

Would it be unconstitutional for the federal government to specifiy the earliest date possible for primaries, say, March 1, or something like that. This is just getting ridiculous. I mean, the position is at the federal level.

How is it that Obama and Edwards are not on the Rat Michigan ballot? It’s hard to believe they missed a filing deadline.

Why do you think the democrats will cross over in massive number to vote for a certain Republican candidate in the primaries? Did this massive democrats voting for Republicans candidates in Michigan primaries occurred before? You can tell me that you think Romney is going to lose Michigan but do not create a silly scenario about why he is going to lose and even a sillier scenario that Ron Paul is going to win it.
