“Now some additional thoughts: the young man being stopped with his family looked like a squeaky-clean young Mormon right in the middle of Mormon country. I would really like to know how many shootouts the entire UPD has had in the last decade with young Mormons.”

Just full of assumptions aren’t you? Why couldn’t this “squeaky clean young Mormon” act like one by setting a good example for his family by simply signing a stupid piece of paper saying that he would appear in court? The time to debate a ticket isn’t on a dangerous highway with your family in the car, it’s in the courtroom in front of a judge. How idiotic of this guy to act so arrogantly in front of his family. What kind of an example is that showing a lack of respect to authorities in the presence of his children? How would you have suggested this man act with his family in the car watching him?

As far as that young man's responses go, I didn't hear anything disrespectful at all. He just asked questions in a calm voice.

Now, is asking any question at all of a police officer considered disrespectful? You seem to impute arrogance when a guy stands up for himself in a gentlemanly way. How is that arrogant?

Or have we lost all of rights and self-respect completely? Did Orwell have it right but just a couple of years later?
