Driving a marked cruiser, on the interstate, posted speed 65, me doing 65

In my experience, you, sir, are a rareity.

I drive a pretty fair amount, and when I see a cruiser, other than when it's parked on the side of the highway, 95% of the time the officer is speeding (often blatantly), running a stop sign or light, failing to signal when changing lanes, and otherwise flaunting the traffic rules that we regular citizens pay good money to atone for when we break.

It does a lot to erode the respect citizens have for the police.

On a fairly regular route I drive, I can't count how many time I've seen an officer fly by doing well over the speed limit, often passing cars on the right without signalling, only to pull into the median and stop - they were in a hurry to get back to their radar-running spot.

I often wonder of those officers consider the irony of speeding and driving recklessly in order to pull over drivers for the same thing.

As department policy we did not exceed the interstate posted 65 by more than 10 MPH. Problem is when a cop is doing say 65 or 70 traffic starts to backup. In the case I sighted there was no traffic, it was daytime and the driver did not even slow down, just came rolling up by me. If he had slowed down, then passed, I would have done nothing. I have driven fast, speeding if you will, without the blues on for several reasons. Looking for reported DUI, was taking an arrest to the jail, cash bonds of $4K and I was the only cop in our small town on duty. Had to get there and drop him off and get back to my town. On the way back I did hit the blues a few times because traffic would bunch up, so bad there was no room to move to the right lane.
