SIERRA VISTA Sundays protest at the Fort Huachuca Main Gate called for 25 off-duty Sierra Vista police officers to clock in for overtime.
A total of 32 officers worked the event, of which 25 were on overtime, for the approximate seven-hour detail, city Lt. Adam Thrasher said. Officers time sheets arent due until Monday morning, so exact numbers are not yet available.
The city will spend an estimated $7,000 in overtime pay as a result of the approximate 175 man-hours used during the event, Thrasher said.
For events that may occur in city right of way but are not facilitated by the city, such as parades or Sundays demonstration, special-use permits are disseminated throughout all seven city departments, so they can be prepared to accommodate for things like traffic interruption, Public Works Department engineering technician Bryan Mills said.
The special-use permit for this protest, which has become an annual event at the forts Main Gate, was put in back in the summer, Mills said.
There is no cost associated with the permit to the people who have parades or demonstrations, City Clerk Jill Adams said. Rather, people facilitating such civic interruptions are just asked to give a heads up to the police so they can provide traffic or crowd oversight, she said.

Isn’t that their job?
The answer is “overtime pay” to go out for these Nut-Jobs that will not be available for legitimate overtime pay needs such as an Amber Alert.
Maybe they could just follow the school board’s lead and just say “oops!” and jack up our taxes.
We both know the two, who by name is specifically responsible for that but we won’t go into that.
Lock up the trouble makers and set big fines. Let the protesters that cause trouble help cover costs. If they know this is coming, plan for it.
Such lofty expectations of the elected class of Sorry Vista......
??
The city should ask the Patriot Guard Riders, the Gathering of Eagles, and the Guardian Angels to volunteer for the job to relieve the taxpayer, of course.
You give the city government too much credit on several counts.
One way is supposing that they knew about this more than a couple of weeks in advance despite Ft. H warning everyone.
Another way is supposing that they have the moral courage to actually *do* anything about it.
We have the crappiest schools, highest teen preg rate and more than the average number of meth heads. In the short term this is the fault of the elected class. In the long term it is the fault of us voters for not throwing out these 2nd rate buffoons that can’t plan a school budget and jack up taxes to cover their pubrik skrool bujettng skilz.

Fort Protest may cost city about $7,000 (due to inept city government)
