The FEC is worthless as far as any current election cycle. Their sanctions and fines, even in the face of massive and blatant illegalities only come years after an election has been decided. And the fines they typically levy--a ridiculous fraction of ill-gotten funds--make fraud a very lucrative investment. America Coming Together (ACT) the liberal 527 group, had use of $139 million in illegal campaign funds for the 2004 election for the low, low cost of just $775K in fines--less than 1%--levied only last month. Pretty good investment.
