After pleading guilty to entering the country illegally, the Mexican immigrant from Veracruz told a federal judge here last week he came to the U.S. to earn money to pay for his mother's funeral.
"It doesn't matter if you're trying to pay off funeral expenses or take care of a sick family member," said U.S. Magistrate Diana Saldaña, referring to another immigrant. "When you cross the Rio Grande, you're going to be spending time in prison if the Border Patrol finds you that's the bottom line."
The frank exchange between judge and immigrant has become a daily occurrence since Oct. 30, when the U.S. Border Patrol launched Operation Streamline-Laredo, a zero-tolerance campaign that prosecutes, jails and deports nearly every undocumented adult immigrant that border agents catch.
The controversial border operation has jammed local jails to capacity, strained the staff of the federal public defender's office and sparked charges that immigrants' due process rights are being violated. But it has been applauded by those favoring strict enforcement of immigration laws.
. . .
The judge repeatedly warned the immigrants some of whom had been detained up to 10 times but not charged that an arrest for a second offense could result in a more serious felony charge and a longer jail sentence.

The problem is that none of them are being made examples of.
When an illegal steals his way into the country, gets arrested and jailed - he receives free room and board. If he’s not found, he receives welfare and social services. If he’s deported, he tries it again and again until he gets either one. They’ve really got nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Make it a capital offense, and watch the border crossings dry up overnight.
Mexico is abusive to her people, 'she' has made beggers and criminals out of them............
That's insane.
Thinking outside the box, friend. Drastic times call for drastic measures, and our politicians don’t seem to be coming up with anything substantial.
Initially, it was only migrant workers. Then it was entire families, anchor babies, welfare queens and breeders. Now drugs, gangs, murderers, rapists, and all other manner of violent criminals are coming. Amidst all of this, they bring all sorts of disease, pestillence, and 3rd-world hygiene with them.
What’s next? Full-blown terrorists? Militia? An outright war to reclaim “their” terriroty? Know for a FACT it will only get worse, and 10 years from now, we’ll be lamenting that we didn’t do anything today to drop the hammer on this situation.
You may call it insane, but I love my country and don’t want to see it reduced to 3rd world status at the hands of criminal invaders and complacent politicians. Nationalism is not a bad thing.
Calling for it to be Made it a capital offense to illegally cross our borders is insane and I stand by that. If you want to read implications in that statement that aren't there, have at it.
It is looking worse all the time and my view is that you are just ‘tough love’ promoting which has been proven to work!!
It is looking worse all the time and my view is that you are just ‘tough love’ promoting which has been proven to work!! You know things are reaching the chaos point when you live in a welfare saturated county and the ‘victims’ are sounding like conservatives because illegals are getting the benefits!
Let’s see, if the borders were truly secure and fenced / walled off, then the flood wouldn’t be filling the buckets neither. Not to mention, there’s about 150 closed military bases all over the South that could be used as low risk detention centers for arrested illegals that need a trial and then deportation.
WTF?? A little too early to be in the bottle, isn't it?
Looks like a duplicate:
Border patrols go zero tolerance

I’m assuming that you aren’t Black. In parts of LA it is now a capital offense (with justice being served by Mexican gang members) for Blacks to enter the wrong neighborhood.
Myself, I would rather hang illegal aliens than have them killing Americans on American soil.
Go ahead. You'd probably get plenty of contributers to help you buy the ropes to hang 20 mil people.
I wouldn't be one of them but there are plenty here who would.
” In parts of LA it is now a capital offense (with justice being served by Mexican gang members) for Blacks to enter the wrong neighborhood.”
Everywhere from downtown to Canoga Park.

20 years ago, they were friendly, caused little trouble, and kept to themselves. There were 3 million. Now it is 20-25 million, and they have numbers and clout. They are no longer friendly, and many want to take over! Many are not here to work, and they are criminals. Another Open Borders POTUS, and America as we know it will be finished!
It costs 20,000-30,000 a year to lock up people in the US,
Perhaps if you were a Black American you would have a different opinion.
Hey, that drug mule that Border Patrol Agents Ramos and Compean shot, he was just raising money for his sick mother. He only did it just the one time (except for all the other times).
All these guys have a sob story, and the reporters are only too happy to print them without any investigation.
