Skelton had a way of keeping his act clean for TV. It was known as the Blue Rehearsal.

Skelton had come up by way of burlesque, and he'd developed a knack for ad libbing. On TV, however, that ad libbing could get you in trouble. So Skelton set aside one rehearsal to get all those dirty, burlesque-like lines out of his system before it was time to go on camera. That was the Blue Rehearsal, and it was the hottest ticket in L.A.
