An Oakland man was convicted today of first-degree murder for fatally shooting the head of Your Black Muslim Bakery in 2005 during a failed carjacking.
Alfonza Phillips III, 22, smirked as the guilty verdict on the special-circumstances murder charge was read in an Oakland courtroom. Phillips faces life in prison without the possibility of parole for killing Antar Bey, 23, when he is sentenced Dec. 14 by Judge Jon Rolefson of Alameda County Superior Court.
The 10-man, two-woman jury deliberated about two days after a three-week trial. The panel also convicted Phillips on charges that he personally used and discharged a gun in the slaying.
Defense attorney Leonard Ulfelder had argued that Bey was killed by someone other than Phillips as a result of a power struggle within the Oakland bakery. He declined to discuss the verdict.

Thought tapes were made of every interrogation. While on the stand, Longmire stated he didn’t intimidate Foy. The tapes would have proved his statement.

There was a Nation of Islam bakery at Oakland Airport. Excellent bean pie. Don’t know if this is the same one.
No, I don't think it is. I live in Berkeley about two blocks from this bakery. The Oakland Airport is a good 15 minute drive from here.
I don’t know which company ran the one at the airport, but it was a cart operated by a local bakery. I think in the southwest terminal.
Apparently, it’s to die for.

Your Black Muslim Bakery's Yusuf Bey IV accused in real estate scam
The leader of Your Black Muslim Bakery, already accused of kidnapping and torturing a woman, is facing new charges in an alleged real-estate scam, court records show.
Yusuf Bey IV, 21, was charged in Alameda County Superior Court with forgery, grand theft, filing false documents, obtaining money under false pretenses, possession of a forged driver's license and identity theft.
Thanx, looks like it was the same people. But it did taste good. I like bean and sweet potato pie.
