An extra prayer of thanks and a toast to Bob Clark this year for the movie. (He and his son were killed in an auto accident by a drunk illegal immigrant this past April.)

Soap poisoning!

My mom once did that to me and my brother for saying "Shut up!" Today's parents should only be so lucky. And it was Lifebuoy soap -- ewwww!

Shep — IMO the best American humorist of our era. He is greatly missed.

I wonder if he is related to Barbara Billingsley, Beaver’s mother on Leave It to Beaver?

Shepherd also has a cameo appearance in the department store scene, as the man who directs Ralphie and Randy to the end of the line. Director Clark has a cameo as Swede, the neighbor who questions the Old Man about the Leg Lamp.

one scene in the movie, Ralphie’s father wears a Royal Air Force issue flight cap, indicating that the movie takes place in late 1940s and that Mr. Parker was probably a volunteer American pilot for the RAF.

I stopped listening in the late sixties when he started flying his own plane and the stories lost out to truly boring hours of in flight detail.

Have you read his books?

According to NNDB, he is her grandnephew.

According to reports Jack Nicholson was considered for The Old Man. Glad he stayed with McGavin.

I also heard that McGavin reached into his own wallet to help fund the movie. He liked it so much.
