I was reading one of those Christian Answers sites the other day and they were theorizing that God placed all the animals in suspended animation so they could be easily stacked and packed into the ark. Makes about as much sense as Al Gore’s belief the earth has some ideal climate that would never change if not for SUVs and plastic grocery bags.

I think a great deal of the Bible's borrowings, it's metaphor and simile, it's law and narrative contributed like no other work before or since to bring Ethical Monotheism to the mind of Man.
