When I lived in Donetsk, Zasyadka (which also runs a chain of grocery stores) was blowing up all the time. Methane, poor ventilation, mechanical malfunctions, crumbling walls and rooves.

A friend who used to work there said they would pull bodies out every day, only when it was a dozen or so at once did it ever make the papers. He couldn't even talk about the place when sober, and always had a rich vocabulary when describing things. The saying out there was: "Shakhtyor bez mata kak soldat bez avtomata." (A miner who doesn't cuss is like an unarmed soldier.)
