Mitt Romney called attempts to undermine him by questioning his Mormon faith "un-American" as he spoke to reporters in Nevada yesterday. Romney was specifically responding to reported "push-poll" phone calls being made in Iowa and New Hampshire, in which the calls reportedly begin as opinion polls but turn into statements and questions designed to highlight and cast doubt on Romney's Mormon faith. Here is what Romney had to say.....(Video)

There is nothing unAmerican about Mormonism. Its solely an American phenomenon. Started in America, grew in America, currently resides in America.
Still doesn’t change the fact that I personally thing Mormonism is wierd, the same way I think Wiccan is wierd or Islam is evil.
Romney and I share the same values. Miss Methodist Hillary and I don't.
The values are the important thing in a leader.
Well said.
NOT well said - totally senseless.
That's what is interesting about the whole thing. From the Salt Lake Tribune: Calls to voters target Romney's LDS faith
The calls, first reported by The Associated Press, ask voters whether they know Romney is a Mormon, that he received a draft deferment from Vietnam to serve a mission, that Mormons didn't allow blacks to hold the priesthood until the 1970s and the LDS Church views the Book of Mormon as superior to the Bible. (Note: From the LDS "Articles of Faith",We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.)
News reports say the calls in New Hampshire and Iowa also raised the issue of a Mormon temple ceremony known as baptism for the dead, defined the LDS Church as a cult and asked whether that would make a voter less likely to vote for Romney.
The calls reportedly were placed by Western Wats, an Orem-based survey-research firm.
There are no "untruths in the questions asked. My note further explains the "Bible and Book of Mormon" belief.
And from an article in the Deseret Morning News in August,
Romney's advisers haven't agreed yet on how to handle the questions raised about his faith. One option is a series of unscripted "moments," like the Mickelson interview, rather than a full-blown speech. Another is to wait to do anything significant until after the primaries, to counter then whatever issues about Mormonism may be raised by the Democrats if Romney is the GOP nominee.
There appears to be no hurry. As one Romney aide explained, "when people attack his religion he becomes an underdog, and people like underdogs." A recent Washington Post-ABC News poll showed Romney leading among Iowa evangelical Protestants.
From the LDS Articles of Faith,
8. Articles of Faith 1:8 We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
Maybe not INFERIOR..but surely NOT SUPERIOR?
“I’m still trying to determine whether Romney’s campaign is a serious attempt to get the presidential nomination, or a missionary outreach effort by LDS.”
I guarantee it is viewed as outreach by the leaders in Salt Lake City. Mitt’s role in the Olympics wasn’t totally random, it was more a fortuitous way to run him up the flagpole.
“This country was founded on religious freedom. Romneys “
So, I am to be denied my religious freedom to choose based on religion, so Romney can be given a free ride on religion? WoooHooo that makes perfect sense.
From the view in Salt Lake City, Missouri is between New York and Florida, so maybe they probably consider it the middle east.
“Mitt Boys problems are not so much related to his religious beliefs, as they are with his politics. His penchant for political expediency to gain advantage, shows a waffler of the first order.”
And I would contend that some of his RINO leanings (like Romneycare) are due to his religious background, as is his tendency to waffle.
This thread is about FREEDOM of RELIGION in the United States. It’s not about speaking of ill will of someone’s faith. Do that in the religion section — you can try to convert people there.
Bash someone’s faith in the Religion Section. This thread has SERIOUSLY deteriorated since your group has joined in. You are an example of what these push polls are all about.
[How free would a religion be, if pointing out apostasy and false doctrine were forbidden? Not free at all.]
“I don’t think Romney’s saying that discussing denominational differences should be forbidden,”
Sure he is. How can you not discuss at some point whether Romney sees the future through peep stones? Mitt wants to shut off discussion of his religion for POLITICAL purposes.
“Nixon was a Quaker...did anyone question that? Lincoln was an agnostic...anyone have a problem with that? “
and which of these men believed he was going to become a God with multiple wives and spirit children? In other words, who thought they were on a path to exaltation that lead through the White House?
In fact, pastors at my church have called it a cult.
[How intolerant. I went to Catholic school for 12 years (1-12) and had many discussions and debates about different religions during that time. Not once was there a reference or statement from the priests or teachers that Mormonism was a cult. Cult = a cohesive social group devoted to beliefs or practices that the surrounding culture considers outside the mainstream. I guess that pretty much describes Catholics, jews, quakers, Methodists, Seventh Day Adventists, Calvinists..well, you get my drift.]
Here’s how you can tell it is a cult. Go here and read this thread by ex-Mormons, take note of the devastation and suicidal tendencies they note:

There’s a whole website full of such accounts. If you can find another denomination that has such a sad website of ex-believers, let me know. Salt Lake is the Prozac capital of the US. Here’s another interesting account:

Nobody is trying to convert anybody here.
Conversion is purely the work of God, the Holy Spirit. None of us or any other human knows if Mitt Romney has salvation or not, but his heart is manifest by his works. When he attests to Mormonism, he has attested to a system of thinking which denies the revelation of God the Father and God the Son and attempts to recast those names into different persons of their making.
Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. When we are exposed to that type of thinking (LDS/Mormonism) and compare it to the faith of Christ, we have a system of perception which reveals far more about Mormonism than a secular worldly position exposes.
Faith without works is dead, so when we practice through faith in Him, applying faith provided by God to every situation, we also are able to perform good works in the soul and body.
Choosing a presidential candidate independent of faith through Christ might be a human good work, but a divinely dead work, which will later be consumed as by fire.
So many forget the second portion of the first amendment,...shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.
Like, I said. To the Religion Section. This thread is about PUSH POLLS and FREEDOM OF RELIGION IN THE UNITED STATES.
Like I said, you so quickly discount the second portion of the 1st amendment. The free exercise of religion is not divorced from our thinking in politics.
