I graduated from high school in 1965; even then I kinda had the idea that all this Prom Biz was somebody else's idea of a "rite of passage", so I didn't even think about skipping my Friday night shift at Oscar's Flying A gas station.

(And, yes, I could have gotten a "date" for the affair)

Years later, went to the first two or three "reunions", where the same cliques did the clique stuff all over again....pretty silly, in fact.

Ain't it the truth?!?

I went to my junior prom, didn't particularly enjoy it. Asked a girl to the prom senior year, she turned me down (she had strict parents and I think she wasn't allowed to go, period), so I skipped it. Went to church with my parents that night, actually. :-)

And the clique thing at reunions is universal. Many of the same people who were nasty in high school are still nasty 20 years later.
