That depends on your definition of "lead". Other nations subsidize their airlines and many are state owned. Apples and oranges.....
Do you remember the Boeing that lost its roof in Honolulu?
We are talking about the useless euros and their little airplane company, and someone posts a picture of exactly why no sane person should step aboard some Airbus death trap.
Well Airbus might have some problems. Not everything is going well and satisfying but there happened much more disasters with airplanes from Boeing over the years than with Airbusses since America was running a complete monopoly during the 60ties and 70ties. Nevertheless we "useless Euros" were able to rebuilt our aviation industry that was more or less destroyed after WWII and conquered our suitable market share in the meantime. I can not find anything scurrile in this. Our "little airplane company"* is now obviously big enough to provoke a furious reaction on your side of the big pond. Your monopoly is simply broken. That fact is good news for the rest of the world and we need even more competitors on this difficult market. Since every sold Airbus is a Boeing that was not sold I understand some competitive thinking on the American side, on the other hand I am amazed about the emotional level of the discussion here.
:)
To tell you the truth: We are perfectly amused.
Best regards from good ole Europe.

.
* Eurocopter is the biggest producer of civilian helicopters.
EADS is the second biggest producer of aircraft in this world with 116.800 employees. Of course Boeing is still number one.
Scarebus is nothing more than a EU socialist project to damage an American company and cost American jobs.
You overestimate the importance of America, its jobs and its companies in Europe. Such is completely irrelevant to us. Even if there might be some anti-americanism among some silly dumbasses on my side of the big pond, nobody would invest billions and bazillions into such emotional BS. After all we Europeans are really not interested into doing you any harm because you are still needed as a partner in economical and political regards. We simply saw the exigence to become independent from just one manufacturer of commercial airplanes. Beside of that we want to earn money. It would be nice if you could understand that we will not ask for your kind permission. You should better focus on better products (the 787 is just a very small start - America needs much more competitive goods if it wants to survive as a wealthy nation) than whining around like a pink sissy. If you are able to produce something interesting we even could think about buying more of your stuff.
This is the way life goes. Live with it.
Regards from good ole Europe!

(Obi Wan Voice): That’s not a plane...that’s a Space Station!”

Schooltime well spent. What a waste of time.
Talks in works about moving some manufacturing of this to America....

Just talks, but Mobile Alabama would probable welcome the company.
Yes I know. Because of the weak Dollar and the possibility to build planes for the USAF. Why not? As a European I have to say that such would be a smart move. Every plane that was assembled in Alabama consists of mainly European parts. A win-win situation. Jobs in Toulouse and Mobile/Alabama.
They were also talking about Russia which also would make sense. Russia is a big market. The Russians are trying since a long time to buy EADS shares and would love to bring in their own aircraft industry into a joint venture.
