9 out of 1000? That's nearly 1%!!!! Oh the hugh manatee!

Not happy about those figures, but I think that a less than 1% rate of total screwups is not worth the newsprint. As an employer, I'd be ecstatic if only 1% of the people I hired were total failures.

And, better that they went AWOL than quit in combat.

AWOL data needs to be broken down between National Guard, Reserves or Active forces. If most of the deserters are Guard and Reserves, I would not be surprise. But if most are active duty troops, that is a red flag that needs to be looked at.
