Born 4 days before the last American left Vietnam on 4/30/75. It was Jaun Valdez. I salute you. 1st Battalion 37Field Artillery 2nd Infantry Division 95-97

Thanks to you too. Looks like you were about a year or two behind me.
I fired from most of the FBs (Cam Lo, Gio Linh, etc.), but spent a lot of time at C2. Our location was just inside and to the east of the rear gate.
The berms (in the photo) were built to protect us from incoming as we ran from the bunker for fire missions.

I was a single digit aged child during the war. I can barely recall the second half of it. Before I was brainwashed by screwels and Lib adults, I was rooting for the US - I looked at those body counts the MSM had up there and instead of being upset was happy we were winning. The numbers were never any big deal compared with previous wars. We really were winning. When Nixon started to pull out, I could not understand why and none of the grown ups could explain it. I think it lodged in my deep conscious - only to reemerge later, during the 80s, when I established my adult identity in my early 20s. I can thank those earlier experiences for helping to make me into a mega conservative today.
