Comparing the Cold War and China is like comparing Apples and Bicycles.

Russia was much more of a belligerant than China has been.

Also, whether you agree with the approach or not, by trading with China we are gradually reducing the threat that China could be.

As China accepts more and more of the Capitalist mindset, they have loosened more and more of the vice-grip of control they have historically had on everyday life of their citizens.

Whether or not the approach that the Globalists have pushed the US us in with respect to China will bear the ultimate fruit of a truly free and democratic society is yet to be seen, however, no one can argue that they are not a freerer country then they were before they started to embrace capitalism.

That is highly debatable. As to whether feeding them our dollars while simultaneously watching them develop advanced weaponry is 'good', that's also debatable. I think that trade has benefited both sides to an extent but we are not playing on a level field with China. If you do not consider them a threat then good for you. I see things a little differently however and expect our next major conflict to involve China on the opposite side.

I think the peace-through-business approach to China has already shown itself a failure. And threatening Los Angeles if we defend Taiwan was fully belligerant enough for me. So was taking and holding our airmen as hostages.

France and Germany always had close business and trade. That didn’t stop three wars. The US was a big trader with Imperial Japan.
