I think Fred got in too late. And I think a lot of the first impression stuff about him is true. He’s a little tired and slow, which doesn’t work well in the shark pool. My take on Hunter is that if folks here won’t support him, he’s a lost cause. So what are we left with? Romney v Guliani. Oh my. Who are you supporting, btw?

Over those two I’d take Romney...but I think he’s the least electable in the general.

I think maybe voters may be tired of accepting one of the sharks. Thompson is the only candidate that will answer questions with a yes answer or a no answer - and not both to the same question. I saw him interviewed by David Gregory on TV this morning. The interviewers appear to not know how to respond to the direct answers.

I could live with anybody but Rudy though I am not enthused by any of them. Absent CFR and illegals I would be an enthusiastic supporter of John McCain. He was after all correct from the gitgo on troop levels in Iraq.

Rudy is personal, I won't vote for him for anything.

I happened to catch an old Matlock episode today with Thompson in it. He was more robust and healthy-looking back then. That's the old Fred we need. He seems too thin and unenergetic now, compared to back then. I wish he didn't lose so much weight in an effort to get ready for the campaign. I don't think it helped.

Romney v Guliani. Oh my.

Nothing wrong with Romney.

He is super smart. He is charming, which goes a looong way toward neutralizing negative attacks (which the lib-Dems will launch real soon)

He out-wits and out the zings the shark-infested national media all the time (after 8 years of GWB, that will be a blessing, believe me)

He has come out with very good conservative position papers on taxes, abortion, the war-on-terror, illegal immigration, judges -- everything.

And his family is one of the MOST photogenic and calming in the entire US of A -- which also speaks hugely as to what kind of character he has.

One only has to look at the Clinton gene pool, and Guliani's sordid personal life and you realize that Romney has a built-in ad campaign family -- just in the first tier of sons and daughters.
