I would imagine that if the puma was within 10-15 feet....he probably had little time to raise his rifle and shoot.

I wouldn't be so quick to pass judgment here...

...especially if it was a bolt action! I’d want something that can rapid fire.

Also his rifle was probably unloaded if he wasn't actively hunting. Still, it would have made a decent club.
