Yes but if we were glutted with our OWN OIL, this situation would never have reached this point and speculators would be bringing in boom levels of, oh say, $35 a barrel.

Do you know what it means to say that oil prices are up because of speculation? That's a BUMP!!! Refineries closing for no one's buying the distillates. Contango and Arbitrage with all available tankers full of crude.
