Guilliani was never going to survive scrutiny, and his team has been particularly unimpressive in running a competent campaign.
Romney is the antithesis. His team has been impressive. They knew from day one that scrutiny of his Governorship in the most liberal state of the country was going to yield attacks and they prepared for them and have answered them. Many are not satisfied with the answers, but being unsatisfied with answers is far superior to receiving no answers at all.
Romney is a good family man. Expect this to be attacked by Hillary. Her team is probably digging into the background of every woman Romney has ever been photographed with. Every secretary at Bain Capital is being researched. Every secretary at the Salt Lake Olympics is being tempted with money to manufacture a story. His superb family life will carry considerable weight against Hillary’s and the Hillary team will be desperate to weaken his strength in that regard.
It is this looking ahead and this methodical application of process that is so impressive about Romney’s campaign. He is, in the final analysis, the best candidate to face her because he is, simply, smarter than she is.
Frankly, I don’t find Romney impressive, I find him plastic.
