Rivals rip Clinton's use of planted questions BY MARTIN C. EVANS | martin.evans@newsday.com 9:31 PM EST, November 10, 2007

DES MOINES - Hillary Rodham Clinton, who came to Iowa Saturday for a critical pre-caucus gathering of 9,000 Democratic Party loyalists, found herself fending off criticism from her presidential rivals for using planted questions during at least two campaign appearances, including one earlier this week at an Iowa biodiesel plant.

John Edwards said the Clinton campaign's use of a planted question was deceptively inconsistent with a free democracy, and likened the practice to past campaign appearances by President George W. Bush, from which protesters have been barred.

Richardson seems so obvious a pick that there must be some reason Gore and Kerry passed him over...maybe too many skeletons in the closet that might come out in a national campaign. Of course with Hillary at the top of the ticket and the MSM studiously ignoring her scandals, his might seem trivial by comparison. But he doesn't seem to be making much impression as a candidate this year.

Vilsack is one possibility, to guarantee Iowa and perhaps help secure Wisconsin and Minnesota...but maybe a bit too dull. Evan Bayh is another possibility, but probably couldn't deliver his own state (and seems to be not quite far enough to the left to please elements within the party). Maybe someone from Colorado, Florida, or Ohio, or else someone to help disguise her weakness on military/war on terror issues, like Sen. Reed of Rhode Island.

Reed seems a good guess.

"Clinton who generally avoids news conferences, is uncomfortable handling difficult media questions and relies on closely scripted events to avoid going off-message."

The MSM whines that Bush rarely has press conferences and when he actually does, all they do is hammer him. But with Hillary it's just a "perception" that she doesn't have real press conferences.

Listened to Richardson on FOX tonight. What a joke he is. Can’t believe people of New Mexico actually elected him. She has absolutely no competition - but IMO, if her cover starts to crack further, the press will start to report more negatives on her and start pushing O. Press is fickle and won’t want to be seen as supporting anyone who may lose. Black Democrat against white Republican or female Democrat against white Republican - fear it’s going to be very, very ugly - particularly with all the race issues which seem to be arising all of a sudden.

“and likened the practice to past campaign appearances by President George W. Bush, from which protesters have been barred.”

This is news to me. Anyone heard of this?

As far as G. W. Bush is concerned? Never happened! On the other hand though, this was standard for "the most ethical administration in history" (in other words, the Clinton Administration...)

What we have here, is a classic case of "projection"...

Parsing.

“and likened the practice to past campaign appearances by President George W. Bush, from which protesters have been barred.”

For the sentence to be grammatically correct, it would be...

“from which protesters HAD been barred.”

The word HAVE indicates a meaning of “from now on”.

It would appear the writer of that ‘line’, or speaker, had a little ‘slip of the tongue’ and was mentally referring to their own ‘plans’ to bar those they would deem as protesters.

Indeed. Mrs. Wonderful can only function in a carefully scripted environment. No wonder so many idiot actors like Michael Douglas, Sean Penn, and George Clooney think that they can make it in politics. They see what the Krintons do and say, correctly, “Hey, I can do that.” The current crop of Pelosi, Reid, Slow-Joe Biden, and a myriad of others prove that anybody can be a politician. Best and brightest? Hardly. It’s best funded and brightest publicist.
