I hate wasting this much press time on Ron Paul. But the Paul campaign is becoming a real threat to the Republican primary process and if allowed to continue, he will take votes away from the most conservative Republican candidates in the party, not the most liberal. This is bad for the party and the country.
(snip)
So, how Republican is Republican candidate Ron Paul?
If hes funded largely by anti-war leftists, from Democrat stronghold districts and counting on Democrats, Libertarians and members of the Green Party to win the Republican nomination, not very

Thank you for the post, I’m sure I’m not the only one who didin’t have any context to place next to some of those TX zip codes.
No, you’re missing my point. You’re arguing against your own statements.
Plus, you’re making an argument that ONLY this part of the column supports the notion that RP is banking on leftists to win him the RNC nomination. That simply isn’t true.
You’re playing the word parsing game taught at all DNC meetings. It’s the “depends what the meaning of “is” is” argument.
The column and referrenced supporting info speaks for itself. Sorry you want to waste time defending this nonsense.
But only one candidate is openly asking for leftists to switch parties to help them win the RNC nomination....
No, the party has better options than Paul, Giuliani or Romney. Pick one and get busy!
This comes to no surprise. Ron Paul is the only unqualified Republican candidate. As a Conservative Republican, I know a RINO (Republican In Name Only) when I see one and Ron Paul fits that description. Paul keeps saying he’s an “Antiwar Republican”, which is funny because there is no such thing. Republicans know when it’s necessary to defend the country. Second, he’s a Libertarian. Libertarians are not Conservatives they are Liberal sociably, though it is fair to say that some are Right leaning, but most lean to the Left and that is defenitely the case with Ron Paul. Paul is part of the “Blame America First” crowd and is hurting Conservatives by hurting the GOP. The other Republican candidates are all qualified to be president. They would all make great leaders because they are true Conservatives who are supported by true Conservative Republicans, unlike Ron Paul who is just a knat.
Polls take among “conservatives” do, just not the broader Republican polls.
Thompson is first or second in most of either kind.
Hunter, I’ve yet to find a good explanation for???
I can agree with this... I just can’t agree with his tactics.
Maybe it would be better stated that he could cancel out conservative votes by importing leftist voters. Like that explanation better?
Oh yeah we noticed. Now tell me how RP is improving the situation by using leftist talking points, money and voters to hijack the RNC nomination process?
I’m wondering how many Reagan Democrats who stopped voting are back in the *system* with Paul running for the job?
When think that 25% of Americans controlled the past elections, it sure would be nice if we could get more people interested in what’s taking place politically.
I’ve got a couple of neighbors who tell me they are returning to the ballot box this election because of Paul. I’m guessing that it’s because Nevada is 96% controlled by the Feds and they are hoping for a change.
“I just signed up 3 more disenchanted leftist buddies to donate $25 to Ron Paul.”
Told you all his support was mostly from the left. Why haven’t you had the same success from the right?
Have you ever tried reading in complete thought’s?
The column doesn’t say this - those myopic small government conservatives angry with Bush for his Democrat-like spending habits.
It says this - “The only Republicans we find in his campaign are those myopic small government conservatives angry with Bush for his Democrat-like spending habits. Those so angry with Bush, that they are willing to overlook all of this just to vote for a candidate who promises less spending.”
The half of the statement you want to talk about would include more than 75% of Republican voters. But the people the writer is talking about in the complete statement, those willing to ignore everything else just to vote for a small government promise, accounts for only about 2.7% of Republican voters, according to national Republican polls of course.
Since I didn’t say one thing that you are talking about in 176. I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about.
You started this BS by calling people stupid if they didn’t support anyone with an “R” behind their name in the general election, I only pointed out to you that I will not support a liberal and that I am not alone, that the owner of this web site feels the same and I quoted him.
This is for amusement.
You guys are arguing in FAVOR of an anti war nut here on FreeRepublic, where the position on the WOT is quite clear.
Watching you guys is better than front row seats for the Chinese Acrobats...
When I look at how the RNC has performed this year I am surprised that they didn’t try to position Vicente Fox as a candidate. They finally quit calling me for donations. That is the one good thing they’ve done this summer.
Just which candidate do they support who you agree has the qualifications to be our leader?
So, because Dondero now supports Rudy, opinion of Ron Paul is invalid?
What if RP’s shift since 9/11 caused Dondero to change how he looks at Rudy?
This is your argument, really?
I misquoted you, I thought you were someone else. I still don’t know what the hell you are talking about in 176 though. I didn’t say or imply any of the remarks you attributed to me.
I notice a bunch of antidotes being posted. Nice thing about antidotes is that they don't require proof and does not mean squat in the ballot box. His message may appeal to a small but dedicated but in the big picture he doesn't fit. I see RP as a populist trying to disguise himself as a conservative...
I expect to be abducted by aliens first...
The picture looks right... a bunch of emotion driven children crying at the feet of RP like a bunch of teen girls at a Beetle’s concert. Perfect!
Unless those dollars are used to promote party-jumping to upset the RNC nomination process???
