***A king worth his salt! Bravo!***

I still remember how the news media made fun of Juan Carlos when he was presented by (Gasp) Franco.

A king worth his salt!

Indeed yes, and then some.

After Generalissimo Franco died, King Juan Carlos was installed as his successor. However, he brought in many democratic reforms that angered the hard-liner Francoists. The Spanish military attempted a coup d'état, intending to keep Juan Carlos as their figurehead. The King agreed to address the nation in support of the coup, but when the cameras came on, he called all Spaniards into the streets to fight the insurrectionists and preserve democracy. He is very passionately loved and respected by most Spaniards.

Viva el Rey!

King Juan Carlos has proven himself a brave champion of freedom throughout his entire reign. From the neofascist coup attempt in 1981 to the present neostalinist dictator Chavez, Juan Carlos knows a despot when he sees one.

There are to be found in history those monarchs who fought against tyranny on behalf of the people.

The King of Spain is one of them.
