Don't get something no one has parts for if things go real bad, M1-A The follow up rifle to the M1 Grand, Lots of spare parts everywhere, Cheap AP ammo around, little heavy compared to the AR but much more devistating, shoots the same ammo that can go into one of my varmit rifles, 20 and 30 round mags everywhere, with a small chamber adapter the ammo can be shot in any 30-06, pretty hard to beat,survival is sometimes a messy thing.

I hear you, I should get one as a backup... :-)

After all, nothing wrong with a time-tested design! (Not to mention readily available ammo.)
