I just love the Iowa class battleships. I just picked a picture with a launch. What a wonder of power and technology those beauties were back in WWII. There on one in the mid-60’s, the USS Washington, BB 56 moored in the Navy Yard in Bremerton, WA. It was magnificent.

My dad was in the Navy in WWII, as were many of my family over the generations.

My dad was seriously injured at Iwo Jima, but lived until he was 84. The properly earned Purple Heart earned him the privilege to be in Arlington today.

Enough of that, and thanks for the message.

John

I salute your dad's service to our country. I am sure moth balling then de-commissioning those great ladies broke the heart of many a sailor's heart.
My uncle worked on the electronics, (install, testing) on the Jersey while in the Philadelphia navy yard those many years back. He went on the maiden voyage, to repair any failures that might have taken place on various systems.
Have a great day.
