An Attack on The Ill

by Alan Moretti

"Three things are necessary for the salvation of man: to know what he ought to believe; to know what he ought to desire; and to know what he ought to do." – St. Thomas Aquinas

There is a cool wind blowing over the mansions of Hollywood. The message being sent throughout this great nation is that if you oppose the Hollywood elite you are supporting "a sad day for artistic freedom".

Well, that is what the majority of the Hollywood elite is saying.

CBS has now become a launching pad for an attack from the left. Liberals claim that the conservatives control the media. I disagree with this. There is only one cable network that leans toward conservative ideals. Where are the other conservative outlets that liberals complain about, because I don’t see them? That is why I get my information from the Internet. I refuse to sit in front of the tube and watch world media coverage from the left.

So where do the responsibilities lie when the media (networks) produce a "biography" (I use this term loosely). With no facts, no information and no truths they are allowed to freely slander any individual.

Alan Moretti is a student at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University pursuing a Masters Degree in Public Affairs and Politics. Alan holds a Bachelors Degree from Ramapo College of New Jersey in Political Science. He is the State Vice Chairman of the College Republicans of New Jersey. Currently he is working for Dr. Murray Sabrin in Center of Business and Public Policy at Ramapo College of New Jersey. Alan resides in New Jersey with his family.

Why don’t they go after President Clinton’s womanizing? Why don’t they go after JFK’s prescription drug problem? Why don’t they go after Senator Edward Kennedy’s wild and crazy past, or even (the strangest of them all) Rep. James Traficant’s life story? If CBS wants to break barriers, then I would think a story on ex- Congressman Traficant would be the most controversial movie ever.

Instead they attack an extremely popular President; an individual who ended the cold war, built peace through strength, upgraded our military to surpass any other country and produced the greatest economy that our country has ever seen.

"It was like watching Saturday Night Live". – Michael Reagan on "THE REAGANS"

I am sure sometime in the future the left swinging networks are going to produce a "true life" story about President G.W. Bush’s struggle with alcohol. I can see it now on primetime for everyone to see. If they can go after President Reagan, then who is next?

It doesn’t take genius to figure out the pattern of attacks from the left in Hollywood. It is a shakedown from the left on America’s right. Go after the man who rebuilt the GOP. Go after the man who saved millions of Americans from ungodly disasters and tyrannical dictators. Go after the man who is suffering from a devastating disease, one that affects many American families. It is disgusting that someone would produce a fictional movie about a living human being who is unable to fight back. This is who CBS and the Hollywood elite are attacking. Now they are very angry about the switch from CBS to Showtime. Some say it curtails creativity and free speech. I don’t buy this at all. In reality, the elites are mad that people of America aren’t buying their propaganda.

"Be not intimidated... nor suffer yourselves to be wheedled out of your liberties by any pretense of politeness, delicacy, or decency. These, as they are often used, are but three different names for hypocrisy, chicanery and cowardice". – John Adams

The problem with the media is that it is controlled by elites, who are mostly out of touch with average Americans. When Americans choose not to buy into this garbage, then the so-called "high-class" citizens from the left get angry and lash out at a "right wing conspiracy". If the general public does not want this movie, then how can this be a right wing attack on artistic freedom?

To conclude this debacle, CBS has decided to give its cable partner "Showtime" the opportunity to air this fictitious story. Many conservatives have labeled this a huge victory against a liberal stronghold. I am skeptical. I think it proves that some of these elites lack decency and compassion. The public is in for a long haul when it comes fighting our liberal media. Listen to the Gipper’s son on this one. I think he has it right.

"It’s still a lousy movie, whether it’s on Showtime or No-time". – Michael Reagan

CBS STATEMENT REGARDING 'THE REAGANS' "CBS will not broadcast THE REAGANS on November 16 and 18. This decision is based solely on our reaction to seeing the final film, not the controversy that erupted around a draft of the script.

Although the mini-series features impressive production values and acting performances, and although the producers have sources to verify each scene in the script, we believe it does not present a balanced portrayal of the Reagans for CBS and its audience. Subsequent edits that we considered did not address those concerns.

A free broadcast network, available to all over the public airwaves, has different standards than media the public must pay to view. We do, however, recognize and respect the filmmakers' right to have their voice heard and their film seen. As such, we have reached an agreement to license the exhibition rights for the film to Showtime, a subscriber-based, pay-cable network. We believe this is a solution that benefits everyone involved.

This was not an easy decision to make. CBS does tackle controversial subjects and provide tough assessments of prominent historical figures and events, as we did with films such as 'Jesus,' '9-11' and 'Hitler.' We will continue to do so in the future." – Pulled from the Drudge Report

Both the Hollywood left and the Media have their rights to “artistic freedom” and “freedom of speech” guaranteed under our constitution. Millions of Americans have, in the past and still do today, donned their country’s uniforms to protect those freedoms, too many at the cost of their lives.
While they have their freedoms, nowhere is there written into our constitution that other MUST listen to their drivel
Hollywood has the freedom to make any film it desires, and I have an equal freedom to ignore it.
Equally, the MSM has a protected right to publish and print whatever it wants, while I claim my “right” to ignore them, too.
