NATO specs do include a steel core round which can't be sold to US consumers

That is incorrect - M855 is available from many sources. I have about 1000 rounds that I got from Cheaper Than Dirt in August when they were selling it for $8/20. Over $10 now, but still available.

There is no AP ammo ban. You can buy .50 BMG AP, API and APIT if you want (when it’s available.) I’ve bought all three this year.

I was told at the shop I work at on weekends that ammo prices are going up 20% by December and another 20% in February.
If you can get primers, powder, and cases, I suggest stocking up now.

any particular reason why the prices are skyrocketing so soon?

Materials shortage, transportation costs. Some calibers are real scarce. I’m stocking up on as much as I can on 223/308/3006 ball and any 6.8SPC

We need ammo independence! Congress needs to subsidize American ammunition manufacturers.

IANAL

"Armor Piercing Ammunition" (a technical, legal term) is banned. See the definition of "Armor Piercing Ammunition" in US code: Title 18, 921 (17).

The manufacture and sale and use in a crime of violence of Armor Piercing Ammunition is prohibited.

I think the provision for determining "sporting purposes" allows BATF to exempt .223 from the APAmmo ban.

Note in the definitions that "Armor Piercing Ammunition" is handgun ammo. Rifle ammo, no matter how much hardened steel it can penetrate, is not "Armor Piercing Ammunition". By definition.

IANAL

Now that is what I call "BLOAT"!!!

Is this why copper and lead have been so expensive lately? The Taiwanese were buying it all up?

China.

A while back, Florida ran out of concrete because of the demand. The boom in China and India has raised the prices of Copper and FE.

Yep. I was trying to be flippant. Sorry about that...

Ammo pricing, global demand for certain materials, ect... Domestic sources aren't being exploited due to a number of economic factors, most of them artificially brought on due to various forms of government asshattery.

Hollow points are against the Geneva Convention.

If I got anything wrong one of you guys correct me.

Use of expanding bullets in warfare was not banned by the Geneva Convention. They are prohibited by the The Hague Peace Conferences

I’m actually looking at picking up some 500 rounds of 9x19mm ($69 delivered)from CTD and 500 rounds of 62gr .223 Silver Bear from JGSales for a little over ~$120...

Last time I bought from Wideners, $122 delivered for 500 rounds of 62gr .223 from Barnaul.

You guys want the bottom line of ammo deals, check this link out:

We are really screwed if we are to the point of importing our ammo during a war!

Glad I bought a couple thousand rounds of M855 back when Ammomnan had plenty of stock.

Stocked up on the 7.62 Russian at the same time.

I figure if things ever get to the point I need more than 2K rounds for any 'engagement' I should be running instead of shooting!

"With any luck this will depress the cost of 5.56 ammo. 35-50 cents a round now!

Oh, I hope so. That would offset the high cost of gasoline for some. lol

When it comes to technology and science, the press seems to be a bunch of mental defectives. In other words, they are stupid!
