Strict constructionist gets to be a slipperier and slipperier expression. Everyone’s using the expression...democrats and republicans alike.

Isn’t Scalia the one who calls himself an “originalist?” Or is that “Thompson?”

I think I’ll end up liking the Constitutional Literalists.

Postmoderenists have taken a leaf from the communist playbook, and spend a lot of time twisting the meaning of words. Thus pro-abortion becomes pro-choice, or family planning, or a woman’s right to choose, etc.

Naturally they will try to twist “strict constructionist.” But the meaning is clear enough, and there’s no point looking for new words, they’ll just twist those, too. Strict constructionist, literalist, originalist, all pretty much mean reading what the constitution says and the founders intended it to say, rather than what some liberal thinks it ought to say in order to keep up with the latest fashions.

The problem with Rudy is that he says women have a constitutional right to abortion and to having the taxpayers pay for it. So, that’s what HE means by strict construction. Clinton constantly did the same thing. Parsing, as he called it.
