The more troubling thing is that there are better candidates, better conservative candidates, than Rudy. Yet some ‘conservatives’ here would rather throw their support behind him now.

There is an element in the Republican Party that has an agenda that is pretty much limited to eliminating or reducing tax rates on capital gains and dividends. Why? Because some of these folks don't have to work for a living and receive nearly all of their income from capital gains and dividends and those that do work still receive much or most of their income from capital gains and dividends.

Many of these people don't have strong feelings one way or another about abortion, gay marriage or guns. They pay lip service to those issues only in order to gain the support of social conservatives who do care about those issues.

Rudy has promised these people that he will be their advocate as president. He has promised that he will make it his top priority to eliminate or reduce tax rates on capital gains and dividends. That is all these folks want to hear.

Who are these people? These are the Log Cabin Country Club for Growth poofs that I was talking about. They tolerate Rudy's "wide stance" on all of the social issues because, frankly, they don't care about any those issues. That wing of the party has always has always been the weak sister wing of the party. You won't find many military veterans among them. They aren't interested in any of the real conservative candidates because they have got it in their head that "Rudy's a winner" - hey, if his "wide stance" doesn't bother them, why should it bother anyone else?

If they succeed in nominating Rudy, they're going to destroy the Republican Party.
