INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Republican challenger Greg Ballard has scored a stunning upset in winning election for mayor of Indianapolis.
After trailing in polling as recently as last month, Ballard finished his long uphill climb by beating two-term Democratic incumbent Bart Peterson. With 98% of the precincts counted, Ballard had an insurmountable lead of more than 6,000 votes -- a margin of 51% to 47%.
Peterson has conceded the election, saying he called Ballard and congratulated him on his victory. Peterson also promised his full support and urged Democrats to rally around the new mayor.
Meanwhile, Ballard is calling it a huge upset over the 2-time incumbent mayor.
In his victory speech, the 52-year-old retired Marine Corps lieutenant colonel called it "really unbelievable."
He said six months ago he was the only one who believed he could win; now everyone believes.
Ballard capitalized on public discontent over property tax increases, a hike this year in the Marion County income tax and the city's crime rate.
Yes, and this voter ID law has been sent to the SCOTUS, by Democrats to be challenged.
It has been upheld by 2 previous higher courts so far.
Great win for Greg Ballard, a guy with only $300,000.00 in his warchest, as opposed to Peterson’s 3 Mil.
Grass roots efforts can win.
“First election with Voter ID probably prevented Democratic fraud in
Marion County from stealing another election.”
Aside from the great news of Ballard’s win...
I spent about 15 minutes searching “Google News” and could only find
one Indiana article mentioning the Voter ID provision (with plenty of
plaintive wailing about how stupid it is).
Am I too “conspiratorial” in thinking that the MSM is self-censoring
the “back story” of the election, i.e., Voter ID prevents voter fraud?
Anyway, if you do find any stories (no matter how biased) that link
Voter ID with the victory, please do post links.
Here are the links for what little I could find. The first article
seems to suggest any problems in yesterday’s election lies with the
lady running the voting mechanism.
Strong turnout reported across the county

Well-known voter sent back for ID nonetheless

I'm not familiar with her, but given the competition from Mad Max, SanFranNan, "flag on Mars" Jackson-Lee, Patches, and a ridiculous number of others that I can't remember, I find that statement hard to believe.
In other words, Congress has so many mentally [and ethically] challenged members, it would take changing more than one to move the mean up or down any measurable iota.
I wonder when the “Back to the Jim Crow days” comments will begin?
No, you have to believe boop. Julia Carson is even “more dumber” than the ones you listed.
The only good thing is she doesn’t show up to vote in Congress. She likes the paycheck and the healthcare, but not the work.
Maybe next time Mrs. Carson runs her election: They can actually get a ‘conservative’ rep! Wouldn’t that be nice..!~
We had one, and a black Republican Car Dealer, to boot...
But that doesn’t compete with the free hot dogs for cotes in the inner-city...
SORRY:
“Cotes” should be “votes”
Fingertip dtslexia is a horrible disease...
lol that’s allright, but I was a bit confused (I know winter, and even November can get a bit chilly up in Indy), but I did think it a bit odd when you said the handed out cotes (coats?) for hot dogs..?
Maybe the Marion County GOP should have given him more than a desk and a phone and he might have actually won the race.
Oh yes
I was there
Saw them
In the rain
Black leather “checking the numbers”
Walked in about every hour or two right past my wet self with my Eric hat on. I was at an inner city precint and it was a real experience.
I would agree with you on this. The GOP in Indiana has gotten lazy and infested with RINOism.
Dickerson could have won with more support. There was also a lot of shenanigans on the part of Ms Carson and the Dems.
I have always felt that his loss was a shame, he would have been a real represntative instead of a sham like Carson.
::shrug:: Dickerson is just the latest in a line of decent candidates that have run for Carson’s seat only to get the cold shoulder (or worse, outright sabatoged) from the Marion County GOP.
There is a reason why no conservatives want to run for office in Marion County. That reason is the Marion County GOP.
I would agree with that. Darn shame. Maybe the Marion County GOP needs some new leadership. Truth is, they really showed Ballard very little support.
Is she the one the Dems roll in on her deathbed for any expected close votes?
