[SNIP] (About two/thirds down in the article:)
THE BUCK STARTS HERE
Representatives from four U.S. states and the CANAMEX Corridor Coalition paid a flying visit to Edmonton last week to be briefed from Edmonton Economic Development Corp. folk, tour CN's operations centre and get the goods on the new Prince Rupert container port.
The U.S. plans to invest billions of dollars over the next five years to make its part of the trade corridor between Edmonton and Mexico City safe and efficient, says coalition executive director Marisa Walker, whose group included former Arizona congressman Joe Kolbe.
"Edmonton is an important part of it because it is the northern terminus. We've spent a considerable amount of time looking at the southern end, and now we want to look at the north."
Walker says she's impressed with the infrastructure development at Prince Rupert and Edmonton, but is not sure how CN's Rupert to Chicago rail line fits in with CANAMEX, which goes south through Montana.
Incidentally, the first container ship finally rolled into Prince Rupert container port last week, almost a month after the new port officially opened.
COSCO's Antwerp, filled with a variety of merchandise for large eastern retailers, originated in Hong Kong, Yantian, Qingdao, Dalian and Xiamen as well as Yokohama.
It took 600 containers, mostly paper products from eastern Canada, back to Asia.
