The state auditor is criticizing the California State University's practice of giving large salary increases to top executives and awarding outgoing administrators hefty paychecks for doing almost no work.
The audit urges the CSU board of trustees to change its policies.
It says some administrators benefited from questionable compensation, moving reimbursements and deals to purchase homes near universities.
State lawmakers sought the audit after media reports that the trustees gave more than $4 million to departing executives over 10 years - despite their doing little work.
Trustees defended the CSU's compensation practices by saying they are needed to attract the best leaders.
That’s awesome !!! A bunch of greedy libs, stealing from the state; followed by another bunch of greedy libs, complaining that tuition is too high. I think the only solution would be more layers of management.
But there's no evidence they have attracted any yet. ;)
About ten years ago, there was an AP article about the president of Connecticut College, with an enrollment of about 2000, getting over $800K+benefits.
Boston University hired the worst administrator in NASA's history to be it's president. He was approved "unanimously" and lasted about a month or so. He was paid ~$2M on his contract. One trustee said "two million was nothing, wouldn't even outfit a lab..."
(FWIW, I believe both schools are private institutions, unlike the CSUs)
