Texas race TV ratings down 14 percent
By JIM UTTER - The Charlotte Observer

TV ratings from last Sunday’s Nextel Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway were down 14 percent from a year ago, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Sunday’s Dickies 500 received a 3.7 rating on ABC, down from a 4.3 the race received last season on NBC. The race ranked No. 7 among the top 10 sports programs of the week, behind four NFL games and two college football games.

Last Saturday’s Busch race at Texas received a 1.3 rating on ESPN2, down slightly from the 1.4 it received last season on TNT.

The Truck series race at Texas received a 0.6 rating on Speed, down from a 0.7 for the same race a year ago.

Every race in the Chase for the Nextel Cup this season has been down in ratings from a year ago.

Next year may be worse with the COT aka IROC clone.

They race like dump trucks.

I noticed at Talladega that the ARCAs and the trucks were not very much slower than the Cup cars. (COT + collector plate) I wonder if this might have a bearing on the ratings. Then again, the pitiful broadcasting may have something to do with it as well.
