New York Times Public Editor Clark Hoyt's Sunday column, "Civil Discourse, Meet the Internet," delivered some piping hot news, circa year 2000: Web comments can often be rude and crude.

I guess this dipstick doesn’t read their own Op-Ed page..... where raving, raging charlatans Rich, Dowd, Herbert, and Krugman constantly obliterate civility and accuse every Republican (and especially real conservatives) of all sorts of dastardly hateful deeds and motivations all the time. Civility was being obliterated by the vicious frauds of the left years before the web even existed. Oh, and doesn’t anyone remember how we got the verb “to bork” as in “Ted Kennedy and pals ‘borked’ another Reagan/Bush nominee today with the most vicious and dishonest slanders......”
