If television doesn’t influence popular culture, or behavior of viewers, then advertisers have wasted trillions of dollars trying to influence potential buyers.

Who said it didn't influence the culture? That's not the same as "brainwashing" which is what you claimed.

The widely held theory of TV’s influence is like the theory that the sun rises in the east. Most rational people just kind of accept it. I never thought there would be any disagreement with the concept. Obviously, I was wrong.

Obviously, you're completely ducking the issue. But I expected that as soon as you said that you felt fine just accepting what others think without doing any research of your own. You did not talk about "influence" but specifically about brainwashing, which is completely different from someone seeing an ad on TV and looking into buying the product.

I thought you were someone who could back up what you post here. Obviously, I was wrong.

It depends on what the meaning of “is” is.
