He has made some pretty dumb statements on immigration recently. But, this post seems to indicate that he is repositioning. We can go back and look at all of our candidates except for Tancredo and see that they were all asleep on this issue until recently. I am inclined to doubt McCain because of the recentness and the adamance of his plan. He now says he wants to “secure the borders first” before proceeding. I simply do not trust him. As long as the others are adamant and not weaseling I will trust them.

Do you consider 1986, “until recently”? If not you perhaps should recant or restate. Duncan Hunter opposed the 1986 amnesty, got the fence built in his district and then wrote the law for 854 miles of double-fence across our southern border.

It’s a matter of record and Hunter did a lot towards border security and illegal immigration before Tancredo was even in congress.

Personally, I do not trust Mike Huckabee ( or Mitt Romney either ).

The real conservatives in the Presidential race are Tom Tancredo, Duncan Hunter, and Ron Paul, who is an extreme isolationist, but also a constitutional conservative.

However, any Republican would be better to have in the White House than any Democrat; because the Republican would answer to us ( as the outcome of Harriet Meiers nomination demonstrated ), while the Democrat would answer to George Soros and Al Gore.
