You are correct. Free Republic has been buzzing with this discussion for several weeks now. Everyone looking to Fred to ride in on a white horse and save us all from a third party revolt.
Turns out Fred’s political position on abortion is the same as Rudy’s.
Better get those Moose Party buttons all handed out.

This will sink Freddy. If it does, it will also sink Rudy and Romney. It seems like this levels the playing field for the GOP front runners with regard to abortion.

REALLY? I’m pro-life, but would you please explain where, in the Constitution, it says life begins at conception and that it is the role of the federal government to protect the unborn?

Thompson may well sink in his efforts to become the nominee but I don’t see this is the defining issue to sink him based upon his past pro life stances/votes as a senator. Thompson definetly has a lot of work to do to become the nominee. You know the challenge since you support a candidate with even more work to do than Thompson in the coming 59 days when the selection process begins.

No, his position is one that gives us more hope of overturning Roe v. Wade than the alternative.

Yep. Federalism apparently trumps the constittional rights of the unborn. This will sink Freddy. Would a President do more to support the life of the unborn by:
- Pushing for constitutional amendment which never ends up getting out of Congress, much less being ratified, that would ban abortions, or
- Restoring states' authority to restrict abortions on such terms as they see appropriate, and waiting to push an amendment until it could achieve 38-state consensus.
Someone pushing the former policy may claim to be more 'interested' in protecting the life of the unborn, but I'd expect someone pushing the latter policy to be far more effective in actually protecting it.

You this that this will sink him? There is alot more on the “anchor” that will sink him that just a confusing position on abortion. His lack of energy, lackluster orations, lack of funds, and blase ennui will also contribute to his eventual “also ran” status.

If you don’t have a constitutional right to life, it doesn’t matter what else the constitution says.
