From poison pen to poison crayon - yet another ancient Boston political tradition, the anonymous attack leaflet, has fallen on hard times.
Just ask Boston City Council candidate John Dont Call Me Zip! Connolly, the Globe-endorsed Harvard twerp who has now admitted that his campaign mailed out at least two anonymous hit pieces this weekend against incumbent City Councilor Steve Murphy.
Murphy edged Connolly two years ago for the fourth and final at-large seat on the Council, and Connolly is again trying to oust Murphy Tuesday.
After Connollys e-mailed confession, an angry Murphy issued a statement yesterday afternoon.
Connolly is a coward, Murphy said. He came clean only because of a backlash from disgusted voters. He has displayed character flaws which make him unfit for public office.
